YOUTH AUDITIONS (6th-12th graders only) She Kills Monsters

Auditions: September 15, 2-5pm.  Callbacks: September 16, 2-5pm.  Auditions and Callbacks will be held at the Public Theatre of Kentucky's Rehearsal Studio, located at 511 Fairview Court, between Chestnut and State Street; on the back, right-hand, side of the building that houses Green River Scrubs and Labor Finders.

Get your Geek on with the PTK Teen Project, in collaboration with the WKU Department of Theatre and Dance!

A comedic romp into the world of fantasy role-playing games, this Young Adventurers Edition tells the story of Agnes as she leaves her childhood home in OH following the death of her sister, Tilly. When Agnes finds Tilly’s Dungeons and Dragons notebook, she stumbles into a journey of discovery and action-packed adventure in the imaginary world that was Tilly’s refuge. In this high-octane dramatic comedy laden with homicidal fairies, nasty ogres, and 90s pop culture, acclaimed young playwright Nguyen offers a heart-pounding homage to the geek and warrior in us all!

She Kills Monsters
Audition Information

While we are doing the Young Adventurers edition of the show, this play does contain mild profanity, sexual innuendo, homophobic slurs, kiss scenes (same and opposite gender) and extensive fantasy violence. We strongly encourage you to familiarize yourself with the script prior to auditions to make sure that you are comfortable with the content.  There is a perusal copy at the PTK rehearsal studio.  Please make an appointment to take a look.

Female Audition Piece
(In this scene, Agnes tells her best friend Vera that she’s started playing D&D)

Vera:  So where have you been all weekend?

Agnes:  Busy.

Vera:  With Miles?

Agnes:  No, not with Miles.

Vera:  Yo, say what? You went out with another guy?

Agnes:  Sorta.

Vera:  Whoa. What do you mean “sorta”?

Agnes:  It’s not what you think –

Vera:  I knew it! This whole “girl next door” vibe you’re rocking is all an act. Underneath you’re just as much of a freak as the slackers in drama class.

Agnes:  That’s not true.

Vera:  So, “Courtney Love”, who is this new mystery man?

Agnes:  He’s a freshman.

Vera:  Holy crap, you’re fooling around with a fish?

Agnes:  I’m not fooling around with anyone. I’m just playing Dungeons and Dragons.

Vera:  Oh, okay – WHAT!?!

Agnes:  Don’t make a big deal out of this.

Vera:  I take it back. You’re not a freak, you’re a geek!

Male Audition Piece
(Miles, Agnes’s boyfriend, discovers Chuck, the freshman who’s Dungeon Master for the game, sitting in front of her house)

Miles:  Who are you? Why are you here?

Chuck:  Oh, sorry, I’m Chuck. I’m Agnes’s DM and you are?

Miles:  You’re her what?

Chuck:  Oh right. Sorry, I’m not supposed to talk about that. I’m her friend. Her secret friend.

Miles:  Whoa, you’re my girlfriend’s “secret friend”?

Chuck:  Yeah, and you are?

Miles:  Her boyfriend.

Chuck:  Really? I didn’t know she was dating anyone.

Miles:  Hold up, she didn’t tell you about me?

Chuck:  Well, that’s probably my fault. I keep her pretty busy if you know what I mean.

Miles:  Keep her busy doing what?

Chuck:  Fighting monsters, my man. Fighting. Monsters.

Miles:  I don’t even know what you’re talking about. But I do know it probably means I’m gonna have to kick your ass! Right here. Right now. Let’s go.
